24th ASMIHA Coverage: IVUS
JAKARTA --- The high dynamics of development of cardiovascular disease have prompted the cardiologist to explore the most recent technology. Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) became the choice of management intervention for heart disease practitioners homeland.
Workshop on Interventional Cardiology filled by an interesting theme that is carried by Kiyoshi Hibi, MD from Yokohama City University Medical Center, namely drug eluting stent (DES) optimization. This workshop discusses tips and tricks to achieve results the maximum in the way of installation of DES. In the installation DES, generally there are some important constraints sucah as, the determination of the size of the area of the stent, pressure to develop stents, or complications that arise after installation of DES. Some of the complications that can occur can causing restenosis in the stent area. Optimization DES mounting is done with the help of supporting tools, such as angiography or Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS).
Based on the research conducted, IVUS showed better clinical outcomes than angiography. This is because the better the resolution IVUS allows us to obtain more information regarding the state of the blood vessels. One of the important information that could obtained is the size of the lumen before and after the atherosclerotic lesion (reference vessel).
