24th ASMIHA Coverage: Convocation for the New Cardiologists
JAKARTA --- At 24th ASMIHA, 85 cardiologists as well as 4 cardio-thoracic surgeon was officially sworn as a member Perki. Convocation began with remarks from Anwar Santoso, MD, PhD as PERKI President. In his speech, he stressed the PERKI efforts in primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. This is done through the collaboration of four pillars of prevention of cardiovascular disease: Perki, Indonesian Heart Foundation, cardiology departments throughout medical school and teaching hospital in Indonesia, including the National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita, and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. Perki also continue to strive to improve the quality of health care by the cardiologist in 14 national referral hospital.
The event was followed by a speech by Sunarya Soerianata, MD, as chairman of the college. Sunarya said that Perki must strive to increase the standard and quality of graduate programs in cardiology. Currently, Indonesia has 12 universities providing cardiology study program. These universities have produced 785 cardologists joined in PERKI and targeted to have 1000 cardiologists are scattered all over the world in 2020.
The next speech was delivered by Prof. Harmani Kalim, MD, MPH, PhD as vice-chairman of the Council of the College of Medicine, Indonesia. Harmani advised the new graduates specialists to prepare for greater challenges, namely the science for the benefit of society and elicits their personality. He also explained the duties of the Council of the College of Medicine, Indonesia (MKKI), as a combination of 34 college of specialists, which perform the function of coordination, development, standardization, problem solving, and representation in the college. One of the problems to be solved by MKKI today is about professional competence between specialist.
At the end of the event, Sunarya Soerianata, MD presented certificates of Fellow of Indonesian Heart Association to the 85 cardiologists as well as 4 cardio-thoracic surgeon as a symbol of the inauguration of PERKI membership.
